Cusco, considered the historic capital of Peru, Cusco is the seventh most populous city in the country, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics. According to the 2017 INEI census, it has a population of 437,538 inhabitants. In 1972, Unesco declared it a National Historic Monument, while in 1983 it was recognized as a World Heritage Site. Due to its majestic viceregal monuments, it is called the 'Rome of America'.
